The application process takes place from around the beginning of November up until Christmas (see the parish newsletter for dates) and includes an interview with a priest.   Sessions start in the January and run on a Tuesday evening and depending on the numbers involved, we may have to split into groups and use various parish rooms.

The Sacrament at St John Fisher

The preparation period for this Sacrament takes place from early January until sometime in May, with the date of Confirmation usually around the time of the Feast of Pentecost. Candidates must be at least 12 years of age and older and must attend mass regularly, if not weekly.

Sponsor
Each candidate has a sponsor who stands beside you at your Confirmation to present you to the Bishop. Your sponsor undertakes to take an interest in your journey of faith. They must be a practising Roman Catholic, over 16 years of age and cannot be your own mother or father.

Confirmation name
You do not actually have to have a new “Confirmation name” but most people do. The idea is that you choose the name of a saint who will be your special patron. You must therefore know something about the saint and why you are inspired by him or her. We will help you in this during the course of the preparation programme.
